Preparing Parents for EYFS
If your parents need more information on the EYFS, there are a
number of very useful resources for them. A free DVD which provides all the
information a parent might need is available through the Department for
Children, Schools and families at www.dcsf.gov.uk
and the dfes have a free parent pack which can be accessed at www.standards.dfes.gov.uk
Voluntary Employment
Many settings encourage volunteers and may have a number of
individuals volunteering on a regular basis. The National Council for Voluntary
Organisations (NCVO) have just released a book entitled ‘Good Guide to
Employment’ which offers advice and good practice for organisations
working with volunteers. Further information can be found at www.ncvo-vol.org.uk
List 99
The purpose of List 99 is to enable employers to safeguard
against employing a barred person. These individuals are barred from working
with children for reasons such as sexual or violent behaviours towards children.
Other offences such as drug related offences and any violent crime can also
lead to a ban. Individuals cautioned as well as convicted of sexual offences
against children are automatically entered on List 99. Providers can check the
List 99 before employing an individual and will offer some reassurances whilst
waiting for a full CRB check. Please note however, this does not replace the
CRB process.
