Government
does U turn on Childcare Voucher Plan!
Following
widespread criticism from many quarters the government had now decided
they are not going to scrap tax relied on Childcare Vouchers. They were considering plans to end tax relief from
2011 and divert money into offering more free childcare places for
two-year-olds. However, in a letter to Parliamentary Labour Party’s Women’s
Committee joint chairs, Fiona Mactaggart MP and Roberta Blackman-Woods
MP, Prime Minister Gordon Brown has confirmed the plans have been scaled
down. He said that tax relief for basic rate taxpayers will continue, but
higher rate taxpayers will see their tax relief halved from 40 per cent
to 20 per cent from 2011. Source CYPN.

Gordon Brown urged to change VAT rules
for Nurseries
Sian
Lewis-Evans, owner of Gingerbread Day Nurseries in Buckinghamshire has
called for her VAT
costs to be cut to zero by the government. She believes that the rules
should be changed to allow her and her peers to claim the sales tax back
from the goods and services they purchase, Nursery World reported.
The business owner has published a petition on the issue on the 10
Downing Street website.
Ms Lewis-Evans has said that she was losing around £15,000 a year due to
the rules.
"If we were able to reinvest this money into our setting it would
benefit both children and staff, as we would be able to offer more
training and purchase more resources," she added.
