Hints of compromise over proposed withdrawal of Childcare Voucher plan

In last months newsletter we reported on the proposed government plan to withdraw the Childcare Voucher Plan. We published the link to a petition, which has now grown to over 80,000 signatures. Along with the signatures, nine former ministers have rebelled, along with about 50 Labour backbenchers, demanding the government rethink the plan. Childrens Secretary Ed Balls has said that the government is willing to listen to concerns over scrapping the plan. If you haven’t already signed the petition here is the link :  http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/keepvouchers/

Quality Costs: Paying for High Quality Early Childhood Education and Care

The Day Care Trust have recently published the above named report. They recommend that the government need to more than double the amount they spend on childcare from £4.4 bn to £9.4 bn. This is needed to properly meet the needs of both parents and the childcare industry. The Trusts joint CE Emma Knight said ‘  The Government deserve enormous credit for increasing spending on childcare, therefore allowing more parents to work and improving educational outcomes for the poorest children. But if the Government are to achieve the vision they set out in their ten year Childcare Strategy then our research shows that a step change is needed in terms of investment to achieve high quality provision. ‘ To view the whole report please click on the following link: Daycare Trust Report
