Leap develop Early Years Leadership Programme

This month our focus is on ‘being a great leader’, embracing Colin Powell’s view that ‘effective leaders are made, not born’.  In these challenging times, good managerial and leadership qualities will make the difference, and it makes good business sense to differentiate yourself from your competition. We are all acutely aware that Early Years Managers are usually ‘home-grown’ and possess the right level of skill and experience however it’s behaviour that makes a good manager great.

So, what really constitutes a great leader? The research suggests some common behaviour such as energy, passion, integrity, authenticity, judgement, decisiveness and empathy are helpful traits to have and develop, so how can we develop and enhance our behaviours and skills?

Leap have developed a specific Early Years leadership programme split over three modules covering areas such as effective communication skills, exploring leadership behaviours, motivating others, team building, developing integrity, goal setting, delegation and developing mental toughness. Why not let us help you develop your managers into great leaders by attending this programme being launched in Leicestershire on the 29th & 30th October. You could also have this programme fully funded through Train to Gain which is an added incentive to book yourself on the course today. All enquiries or for a general chat about this development programme email enquiries@leapuk.org or call 0116 2861761.

Emotional Intelligence

Our expectations of Early years practitioners is that they will respond appropriately to emotional situations such as a parent leaving their baby for the first time at nursery or when a child becomes upset however, emotional responses can vary from too much to too little. Emotional Intelligence, simply put, is about a person’s ability to manage their own emotions and to understand the emotions of others and falls into a number of emotions such as motivation, empathy, relationships, emotion regulation, impulse control and many more. From an early year’s perspective think about the ideal traits of somebody working with children…you might want: positive outlook, handles stress well, calm under pressure, highly motivated, has a good degree of empathy, maintains good relations with others….sounds ideal!

Well, during the month of September and October, Leap are offering a free Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire with a full report and feedback to anybody who takes a place on their Early Years Leadership programme or takes a web link / web page from Early Years Online.

All enquiries or for a general chat email enquiries@leapuk.org or call 0116 2861761
