WILKINET SURVEY FINDS THAT PEOPLE REALLY DO LISTEN TO THEIR MUMS!
A survey by Wilkinet Baby Carrier of more than 200 parents and parents-to-be found that the choices made by your parents could greatly influence your own plans with your baby.
Of the people who had been carried in a baby carrier by their own parents, 92% either used a baby carrier or sling for their own children or planned to use one. Less than 1 in 10 said they had no intention of using a baby carrier.
By contrast, half of those whose parents didn't carry them in a baby carrier as babies have rejected the idea too. 51% of them said they had never used a baby carrier or sling and had no plans to either.
Gideon Wilkins said: "It makes you realise how much of an effect your own decisions as a parent will have on your grandchildren. When our first daughter was born my wife hadn't really thought about using a baby carrier - and acknowledged that part of it was because she and her siblings weren't carried, so it just hadn't occurred to her.
“I spent most of my waking hours in an early version of the Wilkinet, designed for me by my mum Sally Wilkins. I knew how beneficial a baby carrier could be and so shared the joys of 'babywearing' with my wife. She's now a firm fan too and all three of our children have been taken everywhere in our well-worn carrier."
The Wilkinet is unusual amongst baby carriers in that its unique tying method actually protects the adult from upper back strain which makes it comfortable to use, even for long periods. The weight of the baby is supported further down the back, so the adult's posture is not drawn down by pressure at the top of the spine. This is particularly important for mothers whose bodies are realigning after pregnancy.
Because baby is carried in a comfortable and secure position, Wilkinet users find that there is no need to give additional support or relieve the weight using their hands. This, and the fact that Wilkinet can be worn on the front or back, means that adult and child can enjoy close contact at any time - when out and about, playing with other siblings, doing housework - all involving baby in the day to day activities of family life for another generation!
